Halo 3 Recon

RECON

I'd like to present something very special that a friend wrote up for me.

About a month ago Bungie announced their newest game Halo3: RECON. It has been confirmed that the story will be taking place between the events of halo 2 and halo 3. If any of you have not seen the trailer yet hop on over to Bungie’s website. Although RECON will still have the same feel as the other game of the halo trilogy, it will have some drastic differences. First and foremost the player will not be playing through the Master Chief, but rather through an ODST or an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper, and will rely much more heavily on stealth, for the reasons that you are not a genetically enhanced superhuman like the Master Chief. The story is most likely to start off after the scarab mission in halo 2, in which the prophet of Regret, with the Chief close behind, jumps into slipspace in the middle of the city, leaving behind unknown destruction. It is here where the teaser trailer begins.

The trailer starts off with some views of the city of New Mombasa, Africa. It is here where the Chief fought the Scarab, and also the main part of the campaign setting in halo 3. The views are presumably from cameras set up throughout the city for the use of the central artificial intelligence.

As the Ai monitors the cameras we switch to a view of incoming ODST drop pods headed towards New Mombasa. We then go back to the monitors view of the city. We see various sections of the city clearly evacuated from the signs, small fires, and relative emptiness of the place.
It is after these scenes that we begin to see a series of event unfold, the first of which is the incoming ODST drop pods are noticed by the AI. After zooming into the drop pods a blinding light erupts into the view of the camera and everything goes black. After the black out a series of protocols are followed by the AI, and it is here where the first trailer ends.

But if you watched the second teaser trailer then you know that there is much more to this then can be seen in the first trailer. The beginning of the second trailer starts off exactly as the first one did until the screen blacks out from the explosion. After following protocol the AI through the cameras sees one of the drop pods come crashing through numerous buildings, and at first assumes a fatality rate of “99.99%”. This proves to be incorrect later on in the trailer. Also worth mentioning is the AI misinterprets the crash to be a motor vehicle crash instead of a drop pod.
After the crash the AI goes through a series of searches trying to identify what the object is. It starts of with its prior knowledge then moves on to the “N.M.P.D” data base, which is most probably the New Mombasa Police Department, and finally tries to access the UNSC, but is not granted access.
It is then that we see the door of the drop pod burst open and everything goes black. This is the last of the view through the cameras of the AI we receive. We now switch to a view of an ODST emerging from the drop pod holding an unknown gun yet somewhat familiar to the SMG. As the ODST gets up it is clear that this game is going to be more about stealth because the solider hides as soon as he sees a pack of brutes heading towards him.Although it would have been a though fight the chief could have handled a pack of brutes, but as normal human it would have been near suicide. This is another reason why RECON will be a somewhat different game then the Halo trilogy. After the brutes leave the ODST receives a message from the AI to “keep right” and “proceed with caution”.

It is possible that the AI will play a similar role to the ODSTs as Cortana did to the Chief. Bungie has also confirmed that RECON will support 4 player co-op. It is here where the teaser trailer comes to an end leaving fans wondering and anticipating Bungie’s next great game.
